Theo như câu hỏi thì network administrator đã "telnet" vào một router từ xa và đã "log off". Trong telnet có hai thuật ngữ mà khi người đọc dễ hiểu nhầm đó là "log off" và "terminate":
- Thuật ngữ "log off" tương tự như log off trong window để có thể login với một cặp tên và mật khẩu khác. So sánh với telnet là bạn có thể telnet đến một thiết bị khác. Như vậy sau này nếu thích thì ta có thể login lại vào phiên vừa rời đi.
- Thuật ngữ "terminate" tương tự như shutdown máy tính vậy, so sánh với telnet nghĩa là ta ngắt kết nối hoàn toàn tới thiết bị đầu cuối đó.
Theo tính chất mặc định của telnet thì sau khi người sử dụng đầu cuối "log off" - trong câu hỏi "The telnet session was left connected" - EXEC sẽ terminate bất cứ phiên telnet nào sau mười phút không có tương tác gì hoặc khi người sử dụng đầu cuối nhập lệnh "exit" tại dấu nhắc EXEC.
